Asking these four questions will assist you make an informed decision when choosing a training provider.

They enable you to ensure that the provider aligns with your organisation’s needs, has experienced trainers, is willing to tailor their services, and presents a professional image that instils confidence in your partnership.

What type of clients do they work with? This question helps you understand the training provider’s expertise and whether they have experience working with organisations similar to yours. Different industries and sectors may have unique training needs and challenges. Knowing the training providers client base can provide insights into their ability to tailor training programmes to your specific industry or context.

Are their trainers ex-consultants or business coaches? The background and qualifications of the trainers can significantly impact the quality of the training you receive. Former consultants or business coaches often bring practical, real-world experience to their training sessions. Their expertise can make the training more relevant and valuable to your organisation. It’s important to assess whether their trainers possess the relevant knowledge and skills.

Would they commit to the relationship, i.e., scoping visits, travel, bespoke, and really try to “get you”? This question addresses the provider’s commitment to understanding your organisation’s unique needs. Training programmes that are customised to your company’s culture, challenges, and goals are more likely to be effective. A provider’s willingness to invest time in scoping visits and tailoring their offerings demonstrates their dedication to meeting your specific requirements.

Would you feel comfortable putting the person you are speaking to in front of your CEO? This question assesses the professionalism, expertise, and credibility of the training provider’s representative. If you feel confident in their ability to represent the provider well to your CEO, it suggests a level of trustworthiness and competence. Additionally, it reflects on the provider’s ability to establish a positive and productive working relationship with your organisation’s leadership.
